What are molds and why should one be weary of it?
Molds are not a part of the animal or the plant species. Rather, molds are best described as microscopic fungi. With the help of specialized enzymes molds consume dead animals and plants. The buildup of moist at one’s residence or work place create a favorable environment for molds to grow and assault particles in items, such as fiberboard, drywall, carpet backing, paper, dust, wood, or exposed soils. Once settled, molds/fungi quickly spread through moist surfaces destroying structural wood and other components in their path. It is very hard to clean up and exterminate wide spread and deeply rooted molds.
In order to reproduce, molds aggregate in minute spores. Once airborne, mold spores are hard to filter out and may thus hover in the air of enclosed spaces for a relatively long time. Inhaled airborne mold spores are known to cause a wide range of symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, runny nose/sinus problems, as well as rashes if in contact with one’s skin surface. Following long-term exposure, some airborne mold spores produce toxins that may lead to a variety of immune system responses. The elderly, children, and people with compromised immune systems are most vulnerable to the effects of inhaled spores, but even healthy people are not impervious to high concentrations of airborne toxins.
